While your AI Rolodex automatically grows with every new conversation, what about the valuable context hidden in your past emails?

For users who want an immediate, powerful head start, Klipy offers an optional, one-time historical import.

This guide walks you through how to launch this feature and explains its intelligent, curated approach.

Signal vs. Noise: The Philosophy of the Historical Import

Before you begin, it is crucial to understand how this process works.

The goal of the historical import is not to import every single email address from the last two years. Doing so would create a cluttered, noisy Rolodex filled with unimportant contacts.

Instead, the import is designed to act like an expert analyst. Its mission is to build a high-value, actionable network for you from day one.

This is by design: Klipy will only create a contact if it finds a "meaningful interaction" associated with them in your email history.

  • What is a "Meaningful Interaction"?

Klipy's AI is trained to search for discussions that show genuine relationship-building, commercial interest, sales activity, or significant partnership potential. It looks for the back-and-forth engagement that signals a real professional connection.

  • What is Considered "Noise" and Ignored?

To keep your Rolodex clean, the AI actively ignores contacts and emails that don't represent a meaningful relationship. This includes:

    • Spam, phishing attempts, and junk mail.

    • Marketing newsletters and promotional emails.

    • Automated system notifications (e.g., password resets, delivery confirmations).

    • Transactional receipts.

    • Purely internal email threads with your teammates.

    • Contacts with whom you only had a brief, one-off interaction with no substantive reply.

By filtering based on the quality of interactions, Klipy ensures your imported Rolodex is a curated list of people who actually matter to your work.

How to Start Your Historical Import

You can initiate the import in just a few clicks. The process will run securely in the background.

  1. From the Klipy main screen, navigate to the People tab.

  2. In the top right corner of the People screen, find and click the Import/Export button.

  3. You will see the option to import from your connected email account. Click the Start Import button.

  4. A confirmation window will appear, reminding you that Klipy will scan your last two years of email history to find and import your most relevant contacts. Confirm to begin the process.

What Happens Next: Building Your Curated Network

Once confirmed, the import process begins. Depending on the size of your mailbox, this can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.

For every contact that meets the "meaningful interaction" criteria, Klipy imports two key things:

  1. The Contact Profile: The person is created as a new contact in your AI Rolodex.

  2. A Summary of Your Last Conversation: Klipy finds the most recent, significant conversation with that person and generates a clean, AI-powered summary. This gives you instant context on the relationship, saving you from digging through old threads.

When the process is complete, you will have a foundational Rolodex that is not just populated, but is already intelligent about your most important past relationships.
